DC trip

Finding myself with still more time on my hands and access to air and hotel points, I've booked a trip to Washington, DC for next Thursday. It's too short of notice to get a ticket to the WH tour, but that's how my business trips to DC have been in the past too. I'll knock around the town for a couple of days and plan a more comprehensive trip with WH tour for a few months from now.

Of course, I had tried to plan a trip with WH tour for sometime in June, but as I researched it, I came to think that I wouldn't be able to get WH tickets. After talking to the local congressman's office, I found that, with advance notice, a small group could be accommodated in a larger group that is already going.

Love the photo of the south portico from c 1909. Geez, TR or WH had Direct TV! Wonder if the kids' rooms on the north side were included or did everyone have to troop downstairs to the east colonade to watch on a 6" screen. Couldn't they have placed the dish on the roof, though?

Duane - love your comment! It sure *looks* like a Direct TV dish, bolted to the South Portico! I guess they had DCTV, yuk, yuk...

Wow! Look how small the 1902 West Wing looks - it looks almost...(dare we say it...) temporary!

In the 1923 photo of the Rose Garden, which looks rather beautiful and is more of a garden than the current Rose Garden which is more of a lawn surrounded by a garden, the flag atop the White House is at half-mast. I wonder if the photo was taken during the time of mourning for President Harding, who died in 1923.
